Subject: CWEA Pre-Conference Biosolids EMS Workshop

As the moderator of the CWEA pre-conference Biosolids EMS (Environmental Management System) workshop on April 12 (9am-4pm), I'd like to encourage you to sign up for this great workshop! There will even be something for our biosolids management contractors and consulting firms. It's less than three weeks away!

The workshop will review the benefits and how-tos of doing a biosolids EMS through the National Biosolids Partnership's (NBP) EMS program (www.biosolids.org). It should be very informative, and attendees should be able to walk away with a pretty good draft of an EMS and feeling like it's very "do-able."

The timing of this workshop is great because the NBP is offering California agencies a unique opportunity. If we can get 10-12 California agencies signed up for the NBP EMS program, the NBP can offer all the training sessions on the west coast instead of in Washington, D.C.

I realize that you may be one of several local agencies that have been looking at signing up for awhile, but haven't felt like the timing is right, so this workshop and west coast training should offer some incentive, along with having an entire "class" of California sister agencies going through the process together. Classmates are great for bouncing ideas off and general support. OCSD and LA City are classmates and we have found this to be very supportive.

In addition to the many benefits of having an EMS, the NBP process for getting agencies through the system has matured a lot since LA City and OCSD went through it as the first class. The guidance, real-life experiences and road testing by other agencies have greatly improved the process.

Attached is a copy of the CWEA flyer that should be emailed soon. It also provides contracted biosolids haulers/managers and consultants some reasons why this workshop will also benefit them in case you know anyone that may be interested from those perspectives.
